As a GIS Mapping Intern, you will play a crucial role in helping us map and analyze rural regions, enabling us to deliver broadband services to those who need it most.

 

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Network Planner to join our team. In this role, you will assist in mapping rural regions across the United States, supporting our efforts to expand broadband infrastructure. You will work closely with our engineering team and collaborate with other departments to gather, analyze, and visualize geographic data. This internship will provide valuable hands-on experience in GIS mapping, data analysis, and working within the telecommunications industry.

 

Core Responsibilities

• Assist the GIS team in mapping rural regions across the United States using GIS software and tools.
• Collect, compile, and verify geographic data from various sources, including satellite imagery, surveys, and public records.
• Conduct data analysis and quality control to ensure accuracy and consistency of the mapped data.
• Collaborate with the GIS team to create and maintain spatial databases, layers, and maps.
• Support the development of visual representations, such as heatmaps, choropleth maps, and thematic maps, to highlight broadband coverage and identify areas for expansion.
• Assist in generating reports and presentations based on the mapped data for internal and external stakeholders.
• Stay updated on the latest GIS technologies, tools, and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with other departments to gather requirements and provide GIS support for various projects.
• Contribute to ongoing data management and maintenance activities, including data cleaning, organization, and documentation.

 

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of GIS principles, tools, and software, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar.
• Proficient in data collection, manipulation, and analysis within a GIS environment.
• Familiarity with spatial data formats (shapefiles, GeoJSON, etc.) and coordinate systems.
• Ability to interpret and analyze satellite imagery, topographic maps, and other geographic data sources.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and analysis.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to work within a team environment.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience with QGIS
• Experience with telecommunications or broadband mapping is a plus, but not required.
